~ 2010 Talachulitna Float Trips ~

 Call 1-866-846-4240 or email us to arrange your trip today.

The Talachulitna River, dubbed the Tal, offers the perfect balance between angling opportunity and rafting adventure! The Tal flows northward for approximately 65 miles from Judd Lake to it’s confluence with the Skwentna River. This float is a very popular choice for anglers who do not mind roughing it a little bit and want to catch plenty of fish at a very affordable rate.

Our trips start the third week of June and run until July 13. The Tal River float trips begin with a DeHavilland Beaver flight from Anchorage, Alaska to Judd Lake*. The first 20 miles of the river offers great fishing for Dolly Varden, Grayling and some Rainbow. As the float continues the river continues to pick up more tributaries and grows in size. Just below the mid point of the Tal, clients will encounter the infamous Hells Gate and shortly there after some Class I, II and III rapids. It is at this mid-point in the float when the King salmon fishing really starts to pick up. Excellent King Salmon fishing can be had at the confluences of the Tal’s major tributaries. The Kings that run up the Tal can reach upward of 60+ pounds and clients routinely hook into 40+ pounders. These big fish are generally taken on large spinning tackle and hardware.

We offer a 6-day \ 6-night trip. Clients report to the Bush flight service at 7:00am on the day of their trip start date. The Bush plane will take the clients out to Judd Lake* and the float trip starts that morning. Clients float and fish the river for 5 and ½ days. One the afternoon of the 6th day clients arrive at the pick up point and their guides will tear down the equipment. The bush plane will pick everyone up and fly them back to Anchorage by 7pm on the 6th day. The rates for this trip vary on the size of the group;

1 or 2 clients is $2,500 per person

3 or 4 clients is $2,350 per person

5 or 6 clients is $2,250 per person

Call 1-866-846-4240 or email us for additional details or if you have any questions.

These trips are primarily catch and release since there is no way to freeze the fish during the trip. We will keep some fish to eat along the way and a daily limit may be kept on the last day of the trip. All meals are camp style and served on the banks of the river. We supply a 4-person tent for every 2 anglers. We will have 1 guide for every 2 clients and an additional gear boat that will go ahead of the clients to setup camp and start dinner each day.

We are experienced full-time ALASKAN GUIDES! We are licensed, insured, bonded, CPR\ first-aid certified and Coast Guard Licensed. We are proficient in both fly and spin fishing and are here to assist you in catching fish.

All trips include a great time, lots of CATCHING, rods, reels, tackle/flies, rafting equipment, camping equipment, meals, transportation to and from the river from Anchorage, and fish filleting.

We do NOT include commercial airline tickets to Anchorage, Alaska, fishing licenses\stamps, personal items**, tobacco, alcohol, fish box, or gratuities for the guides (10% recommended minimum). We would be happy to help with any travel questions that you may have.

Space is very limited and all clients must adhere to a strict weight and size limit.

*In the event that water levels are too low clients can choose to float the Tal from the mid-point and spend more time at prime fishing camps or pay a change fee and float Lake Creek. The change fee is to cover the difference in the bush plane costs.

** Breathable waders, polarized sunglasses, mosquito repellant, sun block, cameral and film, baseball cap, flip flop sandals, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, camp pillow, flash light, personal toiletries and clothing. The weather can be unpredictable, bring clothes for both warm and cool weather, including rain gear.
