The Talachulitna River, dubbed the Tal, is a river
perfectly created for angling success. Talstar Lodge is
located on the banks of the Tal
and
is a short 45 minute bush plane flight from Anchorage,
Alaska. Talstar Lodge is nestled in the unspoiled
Alaskan wilderness 75 miles from the nearest road. This
is the ideal location for anglers looking for a remote
full-service lodge with great fishing right out the
front door.
While at Talstar, anglers will have the opportunity to
fish the Tal, Canyon Creek and Shell Creek, all of which
are clear water tributaries to the Skwentna River. These
rivers and creeks are home to all 5 species of Salmon,
Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden and Grayling. This area is
best known for its huge Kings, numerous
Sockeye,
acrobatic Silvers and amazing Rainbow Trout. We access
these remote rivers in 18’ flat bottom
jet-boats and either fish directly from the boat or get
out and bank fish. All anglers will
appreciate this unique fisher in it's convenient
location.
From Anchorage, Alaska, clients take a Bush Plane
northwest to the Skwentna River Canyon, just down stream
from the confluence of the Tal and the Skwentna. Upon
arrival in the "Bush," you will be met by your guide on
the banks of the river and be taken to the lodge. After
a quick tour and gearing up we'll have you out on the
water fishing.
Our King season runs from mid-June to July 13. These big
fish are generally taken on large spinning tackle and
hardware
during the early part of the season. As the season
progresses the water level drops and fly fishermen are able
to catch the monstrous Kings on a weighted streamer. The
King salmon that return to the Tal can reach upwards of
60+ pounds and clients routinely hook into 40+ pounders.
When you book a trip on the Tal for Kings, be ready for
some tackle breaking, reel burning battles!
By the third week of July, Sockeye Salmon start their
journey up the Tal. Sockeye, which are considered the
best eating salmon of the 5, run up the Tal in
impressive numbers over a short time period. This
combination results in some action packed fishing over
the 3 week season.
Silvers start to run shortly after the Sockeye. By
the
first week of August Silvers are
pouring in to the
river. Silvers are well known for their aggressive
attitude and willingness to take flies, jigs and
spinners. These energetic fish give anglers of all ages
action packed fights that will make life long memories. Talachulitna Silvers average 8 to 10 pounds
with some weighing in near 15 pounds. Silver fishing
typically starts to fall off after the first week of
September.
We offer a 5 day / 4 night

first day and arrive back in Anchorage at 7:00pm on
their last day. Our rates are $3,250 per person. For
